QS World University Rankings

The QS World University Rankings, one of the world’s most-consulted university rankings, is a reliable and popular source of comparative data about university performance since 2004.

    Among the top 24% in QS World University Rankings 2025

    The University of Luxembourg has been named as one of the world’s top universities in the much-referred QS World University Rankings 2025. Out of more than 1,500 universities across 104 locations that qualify for the ranking this year, the University occupies position 355 worldwide. Overall, this places the University among the top 24% worldwide.

    QS World University Rankings evaluates institutions according to nine indicators, each score is calculated with a maximum of 100 points:

    • Regarding the international character, the University performs excellently, scoring 100 points for both International Faculty Ratio and International Student Ratio.
    • Considering the ratio of academic staff to students, the University performs very well with a score of 77 of 100.
    • The University achieves a score of 70 for its International Research Network, which represents at the same time the distinct count of higher education partner institutions and the distinct locations represented by these.
    • With regards to graduate employment, the University achieves a score of 53. QS ranking uses two indicators to calculate the graduate employment score: data provided by a university and global listings such as Forbes 30 under 30.
    • With regards to citations per faculty per academic staff, the University obtains a positive score of 25. The score is based on Scopus Elsevier count of citation and publications.
    • The score for academic and employer reputation is based on data from global surveys in which respondents provide their opinions about the best universities. Despite its youth, the University, which celebrated its 20th birthday in 2023, already notes respectable scores here as well.
    • For the first time, the University also submitted data on sustainability, obtaining a score of 3.

    Among the top 27% in Europe (Position 182) in 2024

    The University of Luxembourg has been named as one of the top universities in Europe, according to the first edition of the QS World University Rankings: Europe. Out of 690 institutions across 42 locations, the University was ranked in position 182 and among the top 27% in Europe. Here are the results for the University of Luxembourg: 

    • International Faculty: 2nd in Europe, reflecting the ratio of foreign nationals in the academic staff and that most staff members (88% foreign nationals) and academics have an international background. 
    • International Students: 7th in Europe, representing the foreign nationals in the student population (60% of students are international students at the University).
    • Outbound Exchange Students: 7th in Europe, based the ratio of foreign nationals among the students. The University developed mobility programmes with over 100 universities around the globe. 
    • Inbound Exchange Students: 47th in Europe, taking into account the inbound exchange students within the total student population. 
    • Faculty Student Ratio: 57th in Europe, calculated by the proportion of academic staff compared to the number of students. 
    • Other indicators included the Employment Outcomes, Citations per Paper, Papers per Faculty, as well as International Research Network and two reputation scores that are based on opinions’ surveys, Academic Reputation and Employer Reputation. The University has not been assessed in the Sustainability indicator.
