Diploma recognition
Recognition of secondary school leaving certificates (equivalence of diplomas)
Any Bachelor’s applicant holding a secondary school diploma not issued by the Luxembourg Ministry of Education must submit a request for recognition of the equivalence of their diploma to the Luxembourg Ministry of Education, Children and Youth.
Who is concerned?
- Any applicant holding the following diplomas:
- International Baccalaureate
- IGCSE, A and AS-levels
- Any diploma not issued by the Ministry of Education, Children and Youth (e.g. a French or US diploma)
- Any applicant from the following secondary schools in Luxembourg, which do not follow the official curriculum of the Luxembourg Ministry of Education:
- International School (International Baccalaureate)
- École privée Grandjean
- St-George’s International School
- Lycée français du Luxembourg (Vauban)
- Fräi-ëffentlech-Waldorfschoul Lëtzebuerg
- OTR International School
- Other schools may also be concerned, depending on their curriculum
- Any applicant with a secondary school certificate from an institution in one of the signatory countries of the Paris Convention on the Recognition of Diplomas or the Lisbon Recognition Convention.
- Any applicant with a secondary school certificate from a European Union Member State.
- Any applicant with a diploma obtained outside the EU/EEA.
Note: This procedure requires applicants to be in possession of a secondary school certificate of achievement or diploma.
Recognition of university or higher education qualifications (registration in the register of titles)
For the purpose of final enrolment in a Master’s programme at the University of Luxembourg, any student who does not hold a Bachelor’s degree corresponding to at least 180 ECTS under the Bologna Process framework, issued by a higher education institution located in another Member State of the European Union, in a Member State of the European Economic Area, or the Swiss Confederation, and attesting to a higher education qualification recognised by the competent authorities of that State, is required to submit an application to have their diploma registered in the register of qualifications, higher education section at the Ministry of Research and Higher Education in Luxembourg.
The register of titles is not required when submitting your application to your chosen study programme, as it can only be requested from the Ministry of Research and Higher Education after you have been accepted to the University.
