Outstanding thesis and scientific achievements recognised at FNR Awards

On 17 October 2024, the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) hosted its annual FNR Awards ceremony, in the presence of Stéphanie Obertin, Minister for Higher Education and Research and over 200 people.

Dr Jordan Samhi, based at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) of the University of Luxembourg, was honoured with the Outstanding PhD Thesis award for his dissertation, ‘Analyzing the Unanalyzable: An Application to Android Apps’.

Dr Eleni Koronaki and her team from the University (including Prof. Stéphane Bordas, Paris Papavasileiou, Geremy Loachamin Suntaxi) and from Ceratizit Luxembourg (Martin Kathrein, Christoph Czettl, Gabriele Pozzetti, and Ralph Useldinger) received the Outstanding Scientific Achievement award.

Dr Jordan Samhi’s research addresses the automation of software system security, particularly in mobile applications. His innovative techniques aim to detect and mitigate malicious activities in Android apps, protecting millions of users worldwide from security threats.

FNR Award for Outstanding Scientific Achievement

The collaborative project of Dr Eleni Koronaki and her team, ‘Revolutionizing Industrial Processes: Hybrid Computational Models for Quality Control, Prediction, and Optimization’, employs a novel computational approach to improving Chemical Vapor Deposition processes. This work has significant implications for various industries, from semiconductor manufacturing to sustainable resource utilisation.

Every year, the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) organises its awards to celebrate research and science communication excellence, and to inspire collaboration within the scientific community. Awards are presented in four categories, and each award comes with a 5000 EUR prize:

  • Outstanding PhD Thesis
  • Outstanding Scientific Achievement 
  • Outstanding Promotion of Science to the Public
  • Outstanding Mentor
