Uni.lu is getting ready to welcome students on campus, and there is a hint of new in the air.
The Welcome Day kicked off the semester start
The air was tingling as 1,500 new students gathered on Belval campus for the Welcome Day, signaling the semester start.
At the Maison des Arts et des Étudiants, rector Jens Kreisel warmly welcomed new students and showed off the multilingual character of the University: when asked who could speak 3 languages, nearly half of the 1000 students in the room lifted their hand, a large group still lifted their hand to indicate 4 languages. “This is our university,” says Prof. Jens Kreisel. “Multilingual, international and connected, like Luxembourg.”
Studying will take time and energy, you maybe sometimes even be lonely, he forewarned. “But it will also be the time of your life. You will make friends and connections for life and in the Uni.lu community, you will not be left alone”.

Many new students flocked to the presentations of student services and visited the information booths of the Career centre, the International Relations Office, the student associations and campus activities.
Gulsezim from Kazakhstan and Fuad from Azerbaijan are both students in a master in cybersecurity. Both of them are newcomers in Luxembourg. “I chose Luxembourg because the country offers a lot of opportunities for IT and software developers,” says Fuad. “We already got flyers for student events and job events for IT and Fintech in Luxembourg, this really an advantage for us”.
“We just moved in a student housing in Luxembourg. What I like most about the city is the mixture of old and modern vibes and the greenery”, adds Gulsezim. “Like the campus, it’s modern and you can see the University does a lot for its students. The library is amazing and there are no hurdles for studying.”

Fuad studied in Azerbaijan and France before joining Uni.lu.

Gulsezim is starting the Master in Cybersecurity.
Luxembourgers Jil and Emila are both trained nurses and are now starting the Bachelor specialisation for nurse in anaesthesia. “For students who want to work in Luxembourg, doing their specialisation here has many advantages,” say Jil. “We will carry out our traineeships in Luxembourg hospitals, this means we get to know the system and can chose better where we want to work later. We’ll also be able to meet people who can advise us in our future career paths.”
Emila adds: “The learning environment is impressive, we have access to state-of-the-art tools, like the simulation room and connected medical devices”

Emila and Jil will soon start the Bachelor in Nursing sciences.
Both of them are taking in all they can from the many stands and presentations. “Don’t underestimate the campus, it’s quite big. But I’m sure we’ll find our way soon” smiles Emila.“
